Opinion: Religion.
You have a right to your religion. It in fact is the most basic of American rights. The founders as a group held the view that people did have souls and must upon dying answer to God.
Since that answer would decide your eternal fate, NO-ONE, not the teacher, the State, or community could lawfully force you to accept that which you knew to be wrong. Any attempt to do so was a call to battle. By Battle they meant BATTLE.
I once was reading an old history book and one of the men in it said, we have nothing to fear, if we fall, we are going home. I never understood that till I studied religious history. Our home is in heaven, we are just on earth a short time to carry out what ever mission God gave us. That was the view of most of the Founders. So the First and most important of rights was to be Freedom of Religion. The other rights are to protect your earthly freedom. The First is to protect your eternal life.
