As a rule the party of the president support the president and if that party has control of the Senate, especially under Harry's rule...only 51 votes needed to confirm a nomination, the nomination is an open and shut case. Note that Mr. Obama had little trouble from HIS own party when they controlled the Senate?
I do not expect Mr. Trump to have that easy a time, unless he gets a LOT of political support from his base,..calls and e-mails.
Mr. Trump ran on the GOP ticket but GOP establishment does not like or support Mr. Trump. The GOP let him rum becouse, they figured that he would quickly flame out and they wanted his money to support Jeb, who the party brass did want and who they believed would win.
In many ways, the GOP establishment would be happier with Clintion as she is a business as usual type.

The split I think would be in favor of the Dems but half a loaf....The Party brass and progressive in the GOP, and there are many progressives in the GOP.( once called Rockefeller Republicans ), do not know which way Mr. Trump will go as they cannot control him. The guy is a billionaire, so what are they gonna give him to get a handle on him??
Expect a very interesting 4 years and if Mr. Trump can overcome and keep even 50% of his goals and he may well be around till 2024! Interesting times!
